GATEWAY BUNNY

Bunny of Gateway via NYCThis fiberglass bunny rabbit is chained outside R.C.'s Family Style Restaurant in Gateway, Arkansas, just a stone's throw from the Missouri border. R.C. told me the bunny was originally built as part of a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade some ten or twelve years ago. I have yet been unable to reach anybody at Macy's special events line (212-484-4495) to confirm this. R.C. has had to give up the stressful restaurant business because of health problems.

The bunny is hollow and can be entered through a hole in the lower back. The wand held up in his right hand held the axle of a daisy which rotated as the float moved down the parade route. I gather that somebody inside the bunny operated the mechanism. Both the restaurant and the bunny are for sale.

Same Bunny, new colorsI drove through Gateway again a couple of months ago and noticed the bunny had a fresh paint job. I stopped for a sandwich and a snapshot. Here is the snapshot.

The restaurant is closed, but the Gateway Bunny is still around. He's moved to private property where he is employed as a lawn ornament three miles east of Gateway on highway 62.
