ROADSIDE ART BY J. C. JACKSON OF DES ARC

This giraffe in Des Arc City Park was carved in 2000 by area native J. C. Jackson, a machinist now living in Kentucky. Except for the knobby horns on the head, it's a single piece of wood from the nose of the giraffe to the roots of the base. When a tree in the park died Mr. Jackson took his chain saw to it, orienting the sculpture so that it appears to be grazing on the ivy that covers a neighboring tree.

There's a sculpture of an eagle in the park, also the work of Mr. Jackson.
