DEVIL'S DEN STATE PARK

Highway 74 west of Winslow. Devil's Den was one of many CCC projects in the '30's. Located high in the Ozark Mountains, it's a good place to escape the heat of the lowlands in the summer.

According to Earnie Deane (author of the book Arkansas Place Names), Devil's Den got its name when early settlers exploring nearby caves reported hearing sounds that they described as the roaring of the devil.
